🇲🇹 All the Advantages of Studying English in Malta And Why It’s Perfect for Traveling Europe

Hello☺️ We are a Korean couple currently studying in Malta

Today, I’ll share why Malta is an amazing choice for language study and how it’s perfect for European travel.

1. Why We Chose Malta

When I first told friends I was going abroad for language study, the most common reaction was: “Why Malta?”

Honestly, I didn’t know much about it either. At first, I compared options like Philippines, Canada, and the UK.

But after research, I found that Malta’s safety, climate, and easy access to Europe made it stand out. The tuition fees are more affordable than in other European countries, and life costs can be managed if you cook at home.

For me, this balance between study and lifestyle was perfect.

2. Malta at a Glance

Location: A small island in the Mediterranean, about one-sixth the size of Jeju Island. Capital: Valletta.

Languages: English and Maltese.

Currency: Euro (EUR).

Features: Crystal-clear beaches, historic architecture, and lively festivals. Transportation is mostly by bus and ferry, which connect you to nearby towns and even to Gozo, another island worth visiting.

Living here feels like stepping into a mix of Mediterranean charm and European convenience.

3. Malta’s Attractive Advantages

  • Safe & Clean — Low crime rates, even for solo travelers. Walking late at night in Sliema or Valletta feels secure.
  • Europe Travel Hub — Flights to Italy, Spain, or Croatia often cost under €50. Perfect for weekend trips.
  • Mediterranean Weather — Sunny days most of the year. Even in winter, it’s mild compared to Northern Europe.
  • Relatively Affordable — Eating out is pricey, but supermarkets like Lidl or Asian markets help reduce costs. Cooking at home saves a lot.
  • Friendly Locals — People are welcoming and patient with language learners. They often switch to simple English to help you out.
  • Great for Learning English — Teachers use clear, slower-paced British English. The multicultural classroom vibe with students from Korea, Brazil, and Japan makes lessons fun and engaging.

4. Why We Recommend It

If you love travel, the sea, and European culture, Malta could be your best choice. It’s small but full of opportunities. On weekends, you can relax by the beach, visit UNESCO heritage sites, or take a cheap flight to explore nearby countries.

What surprised us most was how living in Malta gave us both the feeling of being students and travelers at the same time.

5. Final Thoughts

I highly recommend Malta for anyone considering language study.

It’s safe, warm, and a fantastic base for exploring Europe. We initially planned for three months, but we often say we wish we could stay longer.

If your dream is to learn English in a European environment while traveling easily, Malta is definitely worth it.
